The role of multimodal perception in speech development in children

The article examines the relation between the development of multimodal perception and formation of speech activity/behaviour from birth up to seven years. The way multimodality perception affects the speech development of a preschooler is described.

Key words: multimodal (polymodal) perception, development of sensory-perceptual modalities, speech development of the child, speech underdevelopment, auditory, visual and motor ties, intermodal interactions, the quality of speech development.
