The article analyzes the results of the study of leading (dominant) modality of perception of six-year-old children with mental retardation compared to the peers with severe speech disorders and normal mental ontogenesis; the data will be useful to special psychologists, defectologists, educators and other professionals working in groups of compensating and combined orientation.
